You might be busy with five jobs and a dozen children, and it might seem like you should put happiness on the back burner. However, if you don’t make your own happiness a priority, you’ll lose your energy and fall behind on all the things that need to be done. This won’t help your business or your family, and it certainly won’t help you. Here are a couple ideas on how to keep yourself happy in between taking care of everyone else.
Don’t Focus on the Past
Worry is one of the biggest enemies of happiness, and it usually comes from focusing on events that are far outside your control. Once you’ve taken an action, that’s it. The events that follow that action are going to handle themselves. Focus on the job and the action that you’re doing rather than focusing on the things that could happen – you can’t do anything about all of those fantasies.
Don’t Listen to Advertising
Turn off that TV, and avoid advertising as much as you can. The whole point of television is to show you things that you might want to buy so that you’re dissatisfied with your life as a whole. But why would people or TV want to dissatisfy you, you ask? So you’ll buy more things. It’s not as if those things they insist you should buy are actually going to make you happy, but advertising is extremely good at what it does, and it will make you think a new credit card or a new car will make you happy when it will only add to your burden.
Happiness is as much about what you don’t do as what you do. Focusing on what’s already done, or what you don’t have, will only make you dissatisfied. Focus on the good things in your life and what you can do in the future, and you’ll find yourself much happier.
