When things are going the way you want them to go, many people forget to plan ahead for the eventual hurricane that’s sure to come. Remember: your focus should be on the future most of the time. Preparedness is what will set your company apart when something bad finally does come your way, and you’ll be one of the companies to survive. Sometimes, it’s all about the mindset; without the right one, you’ll succumb to the idea that your business will always be around. Check out the following mindsets to ensure that you aren’t holding them and they aren’t keeping you from success.

Novelty Bias

People seem to think that whatever just happened to them is what’s going to happen in the future. A big business finally took notice of you, and they want to do business with you. For some reason, the vast majority of business owners now think that this will be the norm. This isn’t true, and the most prepared business owners shouldn’t ever count on products and services always being trendy.

People Only, No Environment

We are conditioned, for a good reason, to think that people are our only threats. This may be true to some extent, but that doesn’t mean that our competitors are the only problem that we’re going to have down the line. There are bigger threats on the horizon, and some of them are right under your nose. Keep perspective; look at more than just those who are competing with you.

Forgetting That Risk is Dangerous

Without risk there is very little chance of reward, and though it’s good to remember that, taking unnecessary risk is just plain stupid. You need to keep track of the risks you are taking. Make sure you maintain your core purpose at all times, to help minimize the damage that comes along with big risks.
